Challenging New Regulation Additions for Meaningful Use Accreditation

Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU-2), a set of regulations authorized by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) to meet standards set by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Center or Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), has been made potentially more difficult to attain by the addition of approx. 1,300 pages of new regulations, according to a report by the American Medical Association (AMA).

The general view of the AMA is that the new regulations will be extremely challenging for many physicans to meet, despite the CMS offering the option of applying for hardship exemptions, with deadlines for the completion of both Stage 2 and Stage 3 being shortened in addition to the longer list of regulatory requirements.

?The ever changing rules, while well-intentioned, I fear will bring the industry to its knees and create an environment where only the largest players in the EMR solutions will be able to survive. This is not good for business or healthcare? comments Scott Wolf, CEO of Grace Century.
